How Piplet works

Simple to capture.
Powerful to keep.

Most parents take hundreds of photos a week and print almost none of them. Piplet changes the ratio — without changing how you live.

Capture as you go

Photo, video, voice note, or journal entry. Add a caption or let On This Day resurface it later. Everything stays on your phone unless you choose to share it.

Milestones find themselves

Tag first words, first steps, first goals. Piplet's 70 pre-seeded milestones prompt you at the right moments so nothing slips through the gap between photos.

Print when it feels right

The app assembles a book from your memories. AI polishes the captions if you want. You choose where to print — or save a PDF and go anywhere.

Built for the whole childhood

Most apps stop at age three.
Piplet grows with your family.

Every phase of childhood is different. Piplet adapts — from monthly capsule books in infancy to season stats and achievement vaults in the teen years.

On This Day

The notification you'll actually want to get.

Every morning Piplet checks: did anything happen on this date in a previous year? If so, it sends you a quiet reminder — with a thumbnail from your camera roll, no server required.

The one-year anniversary notification is where parents decide to make a book. That prompt is built in.

Privacy by design

Your photos live on your phone.
That's the design, not a limitation.

Piplet is built local-first. Your memories are stored in an encrypted database on your device. Nothing leaves unless you explicitly choose to share it. No account, no cloud, no algorithm deciding what you see.

No account required

Full functionality without creating a profile or giving us an email address.

On-device storage

SQLite database encrypted on your phone. Photos stay in the app sandbox.

On-device AI

Photo curation and narration transcription run on your phone. Your photos never reach an AI server.

Always exportable

Your memories are always yours. Export everything, anytime, in open formats — for free.

Already have memories written down?

Piplet can read your Apple Notes — and import them.

Most parents already have years of memories living in their Notes app. Piplet parses them on-device, extracts dates and milestone keywords, and maps each note to the right place in the timeline.

"She just said 'biscuit'. Properly. Like she'd been practising. 11 March."

That note becomes a first-word entry, dated correctly, ready to compile into a book.

  1. Share from Apple Notes

Select any note and tap Share → Piplet. The app never has access to all your notes — only what you choose to share.

  2. Piplet parses on-device

Dates, milestone phrases, photos, and voice memos are extracted locally. Nothing is sent to a server.

  3. Review and confirm

See exactly what will be imported. Edit dates, captions, and child assignments before committing anything.

  4. Years of memories, in minutes

Backdated entries land in the right place on the timeline. Duplicate guard prevents re-importing the same note.

AI caption rewrite

From voice note to book caption.
The way you said it — just better on paper.

You capture in the moment — rushed, mid-sentence, laughing. The AI keeps your words and the facts exactly as you gave them, then shapes them into something worth reading at 18.

Mother laughing while dictating a voice note into her phone, toddler playing on the floor beside her in warm afternoon light

Voice note

"um she like, she did it! she walked! it was like three steps and then she fell but oh my god she walked, it was after dinner, the 14th I think"

Book caption

"She took her first three steps after dinner on the 14th — then sat straight back down with a look of complete surprise. We were both crying."

Quick note

"first day of school, he cried for like five minutes then completely forgot about me, I was the one who ended up crying the whole way home, typical"

Book caption

"He cried for five minutes, then forgot about me entirely. I cried the whole way home."

Typed note

"she scored her first goal today, it was technically an own goal but she doesn't know that, she was so proud, everyone cheered anyway"

Book caption

"She scored her first goal today. Technically an own goal — but she didn't know that, and every cheer was real."

The AI keeps your words and the facts exactly as you gave them. It removes the filler, adds the rhythm, and hands it back. Nothing is invented. Opt-in, per book, before you send to print.

Questions

Things people ask us.

Can't find what you're looking for? Write to us and we'll get back to you.

Is this actually private? What about backups?
Yes. Piplet stores everything in an encrypted database on your device. Nothing is synced to a server unless you explicitly share something or enable the opt-in encrypted backup on the Legacy plan. The backup is off by default — it's disaster recovery, not surveillance.
What does "local-first" actually mean?
It means the app works entirely on your device without depending on our servers. Your photos, captions, and milestones live in an encrypted database on your phone — not in our infrastructure. If our servers went offline tomorrow, your app would keep working exactly as normal. We have no database of your family's memories.
Does Piplet track my child's location or any sensitive data?
Never. Piplet doesn't request location access, doesn't track what you browse inside the app, and doesn't collect analytics about your child. The only data that ever leaves your device is what you explicitly choose to share: a photo link, a print job, or (if you opt in) an AI caption request.
What happens to my data if I delete the app?
Your data is deleted from your phone along with the app — it was never on our servers to begin with. If you've enabled the Legacy encrypted cloud backup, you can delete that from within the app before uninstalling. We recommend doing a full data export first, just in case.
What happens if I lose my phone?
On the free plan, we recommend exporting your data regularly (free, always). On the Legacy plan, encrypted cloud backup protects your memories automatically. On both plans, any shared links remain accessible to recipients regardless of device.
How much storage does Piplet use on my phone?
The app itself is under 50MB. Photos and videos are stored at their original resolution in the app sandbox, so total storage depends on what you capture. High-capture families might accumulate a few gigabytes over the years — the same as any photo album app. You can always export and archive older content to free up space.
Does Piplet work without an internet connection?
Yes — almost everything. Capture, browsing, milestones, activity tracking, and book assembly all work completely offline. The only features that need a connection are generating a share link and the optional AI caption rewrite. Everything else works with no signal.
Does it work for older kids? My youngest is already seven.
Piplet is designed for the whole childhood, not just babies. The activity and season tracker — for sport, music, drama, and any other recurring activity — is specifically built for ages 5 to 18. Every completed season can become a printed book. No competitor does this well.
Can I use Piplet for more than one child?
Yes. Piplet supports multiple child profiles within the same app. Each child has their own timeline, milestone tracker, activity history, and book library. Books can be assembled per child, or you can create a combined family book that spans siblings. Pricing is per family, not per child.
What is the 18th Birthday Vault?
The Vault is a time-locked collection that opens on your child's 18th birthday. It's where you put the things you want them to have when they're grown — the letter you wrote in the delivery room, the voice note from their first week, photos they've never seen. On the Legacy plan, the Vault is compiled into a hardcover book and delivered to them. On any plan, it unlocks in the app on the day.
Can I share memories with grandparents or other relatives?
Yes. You can create a share link for any memory or collection. On the free plan, links expire after 90 days. On the Family plan, links are permanent, can be password-protected, and show you a view count. Recipients never need an app or account — they just open the link in a browser.
How does family contributor access work?
On the Family plan, you can invite a partner, co-parent, grandparent, or anyone who spends time with your child to contribute memories. Contributors upload photos, voice notes, and captions via a web page — they don't need to install the app. Every contribution lands in your review queue before it enters the timeline. You're always the editor.
I've been using Tinybeans / Qeepsake / Apple Notes. Can I import?
Piplet can import your memories from Apple Notes via the iOS share sheet — including dates, photos, voice memos, and milestone keywords. Android imports from Google Keep and Samsung Notes via the same share flow. ZIP exports from competitors can be imported via camera roll + backdated entries.
Is the AI caption rewrite private too?
Photo curation (choosing the best photos for a book) runs entirely on-device using Apple's Vision framework and Android's ML Kit. The optional caption rewrite — which polishes your voice notes into book-quality text — uses the Claude API, which means text is sent to Anthropic's servers for that step. It's opt-in, per page, and off by default.
How does the print book process work?
Piplet assembles the layout for you based on the memories you select. You review the draft, reorder pages, adjust captions, and optionally apply AI polish. Then you either send it to a print partner — Mixbook or MILK Books — or export a print-ready PDF (300 DPI, with bleed) to take anywhere. Books start at $7 for a pocket softcover.
Is printing included in the subscription?
Print is always separate from the subscription. The subscription covers app features — sharing, backup, contributor access. The book itself is charged per-book through your chosen print partner. Legacy subscribers get one free print credit included each year, which covers a Classic or Pocket book.
How is Piplet different from Google Photos or iCloud?
Google Photos and iCloud organize photos well, but they're general-purpose tools. They know nothing about your child's development, milestones, or life phases. They don't prompt you at the right moments, don't track first words or sport seasons, and don't help you turn memories into a book that tells a story. Piplet is a dedicated childhood memory keeper, not a photo backup tool.
When does the app launch?
Piplet is currently in development for iOS and Android. We're building carefully and won't rush it. Sign up for early access below and we'll tell you when it's ready — and only then.
